The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expelled several members who recently declared support for the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
In a statement issued on Thursday by the party’s spokesperson, Segun Edwards, the PDP explained that the decision was reached following a stakeholders’ meeting held to assess resolutions from last week’s National Executive Council (NEC) gathering in Abuja.
Edwards stated that both the party’s Elders Caucus and chairmen of the 20 local government areas unanimously endorsed the expulsion of those who publicly pledged allegiance to the ADC.
“These individuals breached the fundamental principles of the PDP by openly aligning with another political party while still claiming PDP membership,” the statement said.
The motion to expel the defectors was formally moved and passed during the enlarged Stakeholders Assembly, which included senior party figures and grassroots leaders.
