The Rivers State Police Command has apprehended a man identified only as ‘Doctor’ for allegedly stabbing his lover, Ima, to death during a quarrel over infidelity at Okereke Street, Mile 1, Diobu, Port Harcourt, on Sunday night.
According to reports, the suspect accused his partner of cheating, which escalated into a heated argument before he allegedly attacked her with a knife.
A resident who spoke on condition of anonymity told journalists that, “There was a crowd in the compound because of what happened. So, the caretaker of the compound quickly rushed to the Azikiwe Police Division in Mile 2, Diobu, to make a formal complaint on the matter and the man was arrested.”
On Monday morning, sympathisers and onlookers gathered in front of the Azikiwe Police Division as the victim’s body was brought in before being transferred to an undisclosed mortuary.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, said, “As we speak, the Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department in Port Harcourt for discreet probe.”
