Former Senior Special Assistant on New Media to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad, has commented on the ongoing controversy between popular musician Azeez Fashola (widely known as Naira Marley) and his late former signee, Ilerioluwa Aloba (aka Mohbad).
Ahmad’s remarks follow a recently released video in which Naira Marley shared his version of events surrounding Mohbad’s time at Marlian Records and the events leading up to the rapper’s death.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, Ahmad admitted he had not paid much attention to the case until he watched the video. After viewing the footage, he said he believed Marley had been wrongfully accused.
“I never really took time to follow the Naira Marley and Mohbad saga,” Ahmad wrote.
“I was only vaguely aware of the headlines and social media reactions until this morning when I watched the video where Naira Marley shared his side.
Honestly, I wouldn’t have believed him if he hadn’t documented everything messages, calls, videos, and dates from the very beginning to the end.
It’s a blessing when God gives you the wisdom to document important situations. That habit alone can protect you from injustice and false narratives.”
Ahmad also stressed that those who previously accused Marley of wrongdoing owe him an apology.
“Those who wrongly accused Naira Marley owe him an apology, at the very least.
May Mohbad continue to rest in peace,” he added.
In response to comments under his post, Ahmad acknowledged that public support for Marley had been rare but said the singer deserved credit for finally speaking out.
“Until recently, it was really hard to stand up for him. It’s good he finally found the courage to tell his side of the story. Now, people can decide for themselves what to believe. I would have wrongly accused Naira Marley if I hadn’t waited to hear his perspective.”
PUNCH Online reports that the video was posted on the official YouTube channel of Marlian Music, where Naira Marley recounted Mohbad’s journey with the label, the events that led to his departure, and the circumstances surrounding his death.
