The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has sounded the alarm over the circulation of counterfeit Cowbell “Our Milk” 12g sachets across Nigeria.

The agency issued the alert following a report from Promasidor Nigeria Ltd., the legitimate manufacturer and brand owner of Cowbell Milk, who raised concerns about fake products that closely imitate the original sachets.

Promasidor confirmed that the counterfeit items are illegally using their brand name, packaging, NAFDAC registration number, and trademark.

They also noted that the design being copied was last used in September 2023 and is no longer in production.

The genuine Cowbell Milk sachets are identified by their creamy texture, updated packaging with the label “Our Creamy Goodness,” and laser-printed batch details placed correctly in the coding area.

The original packaging is produced using automated sealing and cutting along the vertical sides.

In contrast, the counterfeit version features a non-milk-like substance, outdated packaging labeled “Our Milk,” ink-printed batch codes, incorrect coding placement, and signs of manual sealing.

NAFDAC has emphasized the potential health risks of consuming the fake product, warning of dangers such as foodborne illnesses, allergic reactions, organ damage, and even death, particularly among vulnerable groups like children, pregnant women, the elderly, and those with compromised health.

To curb the distribution of the counterfeit sachets, NAFDAC has deployed its zonal directors and state coordinators to monitor markets and remove the fake products from circulation.

The agency urges consumers, retailers, and distributors to purchase only from licensed sources, verify packaging authenticity, and report any suspicious products or adverse effects.

Reports can be submitted via NAFDAC’s hotline at 0800-162-3322, by email at [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]) or [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]), or through their website at [www.nafdac.gov.ng](http://www.nafdac.gov.ng).
