The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano State Command, has arrested a 29-year-old man found with 7,000 suspected capsules of Tramadol.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Sadiq Muhammad-Maigatari, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Monday in Kano.
According to him, the suspect was intercepted on Saturday by NDLEA operatives attached to the Kiru Area Command along Zaria-Kano Road, Kwanar Dangora, while travelling from Lagos with the consignment of Tramadol capsules.
He revealed that the drugs, weighing 4.1 kilograms, were hidden inside a 20-litre oil jerrycan, describing the arrest as a significant stride in the war against drug abuse in Kano.
Muhammad-Maigatari said the officers displayed professionalism in uncovering the concealment, adding:
“It underscores the agency’s unwavering commitment to disrupting the supply chain of illicit substances and ensuring community safety.”
He also quoted the NDLEA State Commander, Mr. Abubakar Idris-Ahmad, as applauding the operatives for their vigilance and expressing gratitude to the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, retired Brig.-Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa, for his consistent support.
“The NDLEA in Kano State remains resolute in its mission to rid the state of illicit substances and appreciates the collaboration and support of the public in achieving this goal,” Idris-Ahmad added.
