The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has announced that it will not sanction Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin, the lawmaker representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency in Kano State, for his recent meeting with President Bola Tinubu.

In an exclusive interview with The PUNCH, NNPP’s National Publicity Secretary, Ladipo Johnson, stated that the party was aware of the meeting and therefore did not view it as an act of disloyalty or anti-party activity.

“There’s nothing like that. If the party is informed, you cannot call it anti-party behavior,” Johnson explained. “We are a democratic party, and people come and go. What matters is that the party continues to grow.”

He emphasized that Hon. Jibrin’s actions were not in violation of party principles and reiterated the NNPP’s openness to dialogue and political flexibility.

The closed-door meeting between Jibrin and President Tinubu, held at the State House on Wednesday, has fueled speculation about a possible defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking to reporters afterward, Jibrin did not rule out the possibility of switching parties, stating.

“I don’t think it’s time for that conversation, but everything is open. The unity and stability of the country are what matter most. When we get to that bridge, we’ll cross it.”

Jibrin is known as a close ally of NNPP national leader, Dr. Rabiu Kwankwaso.
