The Ogun State Government has commenced registration for the disbursement of N500 million in business and industrial grants to support artisans and small-scale entrepreneurs across the state.

The Commissioner for Community Development and Cooperatives, Mr. Ademola Balogun, announced this while addressing members of the State House of Assembly Committee on Community Development and Cooperatives, during the 2025 mid-year budget performance review held at the Assembly complex in Abeokuta.

Balogun noted that the initiative aligns with the Prince Dapo Abiodun administration’s commitment to empowering residents, fostering socio-economic development, and promoting self-reliance. He assured that the disbursement process would be inclusive, transparent, and accessible to all eligible beneficiaries.

“The grant is intended to support artisans and small business operators. We are committed to ensuring that the process is fair and reaches those who truly need it,” the commissioner stated.

In response, Committee Chairman Hon. Dickson Awolaja called for increased budgetary allocations to strengthen grassroots economies, promote local investments, and expand cooperative structures across communities.

Meanwhile, the House Committee on Youth and Sports, chaired by Hon. Lukman Atobatele, also assessed the budget performance of the Ministry of Sports Development.

Presenting the ministry’s scorecard, the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Lanre Ogunyinka, expressed gratitude to the Assembly for its sustained support. He highlighted key achievements during the review period, including the successful hosting of the 2024 National Sports Festival, popularly known as the ‘Gateway Games’.

Ogunyinka also revealed that the ministry had completed major renovation works at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena and the Alake Sports Complex. Upgrades included the construction of Olympic-standard swimming pools and modern tennis courts, among other infrastructure improvements aimed at boosting sports development in the state.
