The spokesperson for Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, has dismissed the chances of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming 2026 gubernatorial election, describing the party’s aspirants as “unelectable.”
In a statement issued on Thursday, Rasheed said Governor Adeleke remains the clear frontrunner with a strong performance record and widespread public approval, asserting that none of the APC’s potential candidates including Senator Iyiola Omisore, Prince Dotun Babayemi and Mr. Bola Oyebamiji pose any real threat.
Responding to recent comments by Omisore and Babayemi about the state’s governance, Rasheed accused them and the APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, of launching their campaigns by attacking a governor with “over 75% approval rating.”
“From top to bottom, the APC governorship aspirants in Osun are politically weak and lack the credentials to challenge Governor Adeleke, who has recorded remarkable achievements in less than three years in office,” the statement read.
Rasheed took a swipe at Senator Omisore, urging him to acknowledge the current administration’s efforts in Ile-Ife, particularly the construction of a road passing through Omisore’s family compound, a project allegedly neglected for years.
He added, “Residents of Ile-Ife are witnessing real development under Governor Adeleke through various internal road projects and the ongoing flyover, all aimed at reviving the town’s economy. No project has been abandoned.”
Turning to Senator Basiru, Rasheed claimed that even constituents in Osogbo have distanced themselves from the APC chieftain’s political ambitions. “Osogbo people now see Adeleke as the development champion of the capital city and are solidly behind him,” he said.
The statement also criticized Prince Dotun Babayemi for allegedly downplaying the importance of Adeleke’s infrastructural projects, including the reconstruction of a collapsed bridge in Gbongan and other key road projects.
“By dismissing the significance of major intersections like Oke Fia and Lameco junction in Osogbo, Babayemi revealed a lack of understanding of urban development. His comments have not gone unnoticed by the people,” Rasheed stated.
Commenting on Oyebamiji’s candidacy, Rasheed described it as lacking political weight, alleging that the aspirant is relying on the backing of a former governor who himself lost while in office.
“None of these aspirants can match Adeleke’s goodwill, achievements, or grassroots support,” Rasheed concluded.
