The Kaduna State Police Command has launched a full investigation into a violent incident that allegedly stemmed from a political gathering linked to former governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai.

The event, which reportedly involved gunshots and disorder, was said to have been organized by the African Democratic Congress Coalition (ADC) without prior notification to security authorities.

In a statement released on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, confirmed that despite repeated warnings, the organizers proceeded with the gathering, creating an opportunity for thugs to cause chaos. Preliminary findings suggest that “political gangsters” affiliated with the former governor were involved in the disruption.

“The gathering led to a violent clash, during which thugs and political gangsters allegedly fired gunshots, causing widespread disorder and disturbing the peace,” the statement read.

Hassan emphasized that no one, regardless of their status, would be spared if found responsible for the violence. The police have since reached out to the ADC leadership for clarification, though party officials have denied any involvement in the event and distanced themselves from the organizers.

“The investigation is ongoing, and anyone found culpable no matter their position will face legal consequences,” Hassan stated.

The police further warned that hotels, event centers, and other venues hosting political gatherings without informing security agencies would be held accountable.

“Any establishment that permits political events without prior notification to the authorities will also face legal action. This is to ensure due process and to prevent any illegal activities or violence from disrupting public order,” he added.

As part of the ongoing investigation, all unauthorized political gatherings in the state have been suspended until proper security measures are in place. The police have stressed that this decision is in the interest of public safety and peace.

Earlier reports indicated that suspected political thugs disrupted the inauguration of a Kaduna opposition transition committee, attacking attendees and damaging property.

The committee included members of the APC, PDP, SDP, NNPP, LP, and ADC factions opposing the current state leadership.

The investigation continues, and authorities have urged all parties to comply with the law to prevent further violence.
