The Anambra State Police Command says it has arrested a 65-year-old man found with 1,100 rounds of live ammunition in Nkpor, close to Onitsha, the state’s commercial hub.
In a press release issued on Saturday, the command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, identified the suspect as Akpan Godwin ‘m’, noting that he admitted to engaging in the illegal sale of ammunition and revealed the names of others allegedly involved.
Ikenga explained that operatives from the Rapid Response Squad in Akwuzu, acting on credible intelligence, apprehended the suspect on Friday.
The statement read in part, “The Anambra State Police operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad, Akwuzu, acting on credible information on Friday, arrested one Akpan Godwin ‘m’, aged 65 years, in possession of 1,100 rounds of live ammunition in Nkpor, Onitsha.
“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to being involved in the illegal sale of ammunition and mentioned other individuals connected to the illicit trade.
“Meanwhile the operatives have stepped up the investigation/manhunt to uncover and apprehend all accomplices. Further developments will be communicated.”
