Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have rescued 20 Ghanaians, comprising 10 males and 10 females, allegedly trafficked into Uyo Local Government Area of the state.
The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Timfon John, confirmed the operation in a statement issued on Wednesday in Uyo. She said the victims were freed from a compound in Obio Etoi village after a request for assistance from the Ghana Police Service and INTERPOL.
According to the statement, the rescue took place at about 4:17 p.m. on Monday, August 18, 2025, when operatives acting on credible intelligence surrounded the fenced compound.
“The victims presently appear disoriented and have been unable to provide useful information, leading investigators to suspect they may have been hypnotised,” the police spokesperson said, adding that investigation was ongoing.
She assured that further details would be made public as the probe progresses.
