The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Industry, Senator Francis Fadahunsi, has called on Nigerians to embrace farming as a way to combat the rising hunger crisis across the country.

Fadahunsi, who represents Osun East Senatorial District, made the appeal while speaking with journalists on Tuesday in Ilase-Ijesa, Osun State. He stressed that food sufficiency would not only ease hardship but also help restore stability and clear thinking among citizens.

“I am farming, and I encourage everybody to farm. Once hunger is reduced, people will be able to think straight. Development will naturally follow,” he said.

The lawmaker commended President Bola Tinubu for adopting strategies aimed at reducing poverty and expressed optimism that Nigerians would feel some relief before the year ends. According to him, the President recently directed governors to invest heavily in rural areas to boost local food production.

“That directive is an executive order. Any governor who ignores it risks losing credibility, especially with the huge allocations they are receiving,” Fadahunsi added.

On voter participation, the senator urged eligible Nigerians to take advantage of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise. He disclosed that he had been actively mobilising people, engaging traditional rulers, community leaders, and other stakeholders to ensure a smooth process.

He further encouraged all residents, including long-term settlers such as Hausa farmers, Fulani herdsmen, and members of the Igede community, to register and obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
