The National Sports Commission (NSC) has clarified that all outstanding bonuses for the Super Falcons were paid before their final WAFCON match against Morocco, effectively ending speculation about unpaid entitlements.
Speaking on Arise TV on Friday, NSC Director-General Bukola Olopade confirmed the payments and reassured the public that the athletes’ welfare remains a top priority.
“I can confirm authoritatively that all their bonuses have been paid. I spoke with Ajibade yesterday, and I’ve been in touch with the NFF everyone is aligned,” Olopade said.
He acknowledged that one or two players might still be awaiting their funds due to banking delays involving the Central Bank of Nigeria.
However, he emphasized that President Bola Tinubu’s promises to the team particularly regarding the $100,000 reward and housing are being implemented.
“On the promise of Mr. President, I can assure you that it will be paid,” he stated.
Olopade added that the NSC is working closely with the Ministry of Works and Housing and the Renewed Hope Housing Initiative to deliver the promised houses to team members “in record time.”
“The NSC doesn’t play with the remuneration and welfare of athletes,” he emphasized.
His comments addressed concerns raised earlier by Super Falcons star Rasheedat Ajibade, who had expressed frustration over unpaid bonuses and rewards in an earlier interview.
“We have not received our money… even our match bonuses are still a work in progress,” Ajibade said.
Olopade’s update appears aimed at easing these concerns and reaffirming the federal government’s commitment to fulfilling its pledges to the victorious team.
