Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, former Governor of Sokoto State and current Senator representing Sokoto South, received a hero’s welcome on Friday as he returned to Sokoto metropolis.
Thousands of supporters from Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara states gathered to show their support in what many see as a major political statement ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Political observers described the reception as a strategic move by Tambuwal to signal his readiness to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and reclaim political ground.
Chants, banners, and solidarity songs filled the streets as party loyalists, women’s groups, and youth organisations rallied around the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, reinforcing his influence and broad support base.
In a fiery address to the crowd, Tambuwal, who served as Director General of the Atiku Abubakar Presidential Campaign Organisation during the 2023 elections, heavily criticised President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
He accused the APC-led government of driving Nigeria deeper into economic hardship, insecurity, and political instability.
“My message is simple: we must join forces to send APC packing in 2027. The ADC and our allies will galvanise support across the country to make it happen. We will not be intimidated or silenced. The suffering of Nigerians must end,” Tambuwal declared.
He also addressed recent media reports about his appearance before the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), describing it as a voluntary visit.
“I went to the EFCC of my own volition. I was questioned and released on self-recognition. The claims that I withdrew over N2 billion monthly from the Sokoto State Government account are outright lies. Even the state’s total monthly allocation doesn’t come close to that,” he stated.
Tambuwal alleged that the current Sokoto State Government was behind politically motivated investigations aimed at discrediting him, asserting that no wrongdoing was found during previous probes.
“They can create as many panels as they wish they’ll find nothing. I remain unshaken and unbothered. The truth will always stand tall,” he said confidently.
