Nigerian music icon Tiwa Savage has opened up about her personal journey with love, revealing that the purest and most genuine love she has ever experienced comes from her son, Jamil Balogun.
In a candid interview with media personality Zeze Millz, the 45-year-old Afrobeats sensation shared that none of her past romantic relationships have measured up to the unconditional bond she shares with her child.
“I don’t think I’ve experienced true love apart from my son,” she admitted. “Every time I look back at all my relationships, I’m like, nah, that wasn’t love. I was just infatuated. At the time, I thought I was in love, but it wasn’t real.”
Reflecting further, Tiwa revealed her long-standing hope of finding a soulmate has so far remained unfulfilled.
“I’ve never had that soulmate experience,” she confessed. “I’ve tried over and over again.”
Tiwa’s love life has often played out in the public eye. In 2013, she married her then-manager Tunji “TeeBillz” Balogun in a highly publicized traditional ceremony in Lagos, followed by a lavish white wedding in Dubai.
The relationship eventually crumbled amid personal and public challenges, with the couple separating in 2016 and finalizing their divorce in 2018.
Despite the emotional highs and lows, Tiwa says the one constant in her life has been the deep and unwavering love she receives from her son.
