President Bola Tinubu and First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, have extended heartfelt congratulations to Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, following their landmark triumph at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket tournament held in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
Under the leadership of Coach Rena Wakama, D’Tigress defeated Mali in the final on Sunday at the Palais des Sports de Treichville to secure their fifth consecutive AfroBasket title—a historic achievement unmatched in the tournament’s history.
The win also marked a decade of dominance for the Nigerian side, who have remained unbeaten in the competition since 2015, cementing their status as the continent’s powerhouse in women’s basketball.
Reacting via a post on X (formerly Twitter), President Tinubu praised the team’s outstanding performance and patriotic spirit.
“Superb performance to become 5x consecutive Champions of Africa and seventh overall. Well done, Coach Rena and the team. You have made Nigeria proud. I am expecting you all, along with the trophy. #MissionV – Done & Dusted,” he wrote.
In a show of solidarity and support, the President had earlier dispatched a high-powered delegation to Abidjan for the final, led by Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the National Sports Commission.

However, the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, also lauded the team’s discipline, unity, and role as an inspiration to young Nigerian girls.
“To God be the Glory for yet another victory for Nigeria as you bring home the second trophy won by the nation in just two weeks,” she said.
“By defeating Mali to clinch your fifth consecutive title, you have written a new golden chapter in our nation’s sporting history. Your unwavering commitment, team spirit, and determination reflect the strength of Nigerian women. You continue to inspire every young girl to break barriers and make history.
