Chelsea have cancelled Nicolas Jackson’s planned loan move to Bayern Munich following an injury to Liam Delap.
Delap was forced off with a suspected hamstring problem during the first half of Saturday’s clash against Fulham, with Tyrique George coming on in his place.
According to The Athletic, Jackson had already arrived in Germany to finalise the transfer before Chelsea pulled out of the deal. The 24-year-old Senegal striker has now been recalled to London to bolster Enzo Maresca’s attacking options, which have been left depleted by Delap’s injury.
Jackson had come under criticism for inconsistent performances and had slipped down the pecking order after the arrivals of Joao Pedro from Brighton and Liam Delap from Ipswich. However, circumstances have shifted, and he is now set to remain part of Chelsea’s first-team squad.
With Delap sidelined, Maresca will be relying on Jackson to step up and provide cover in attack alongside Joao Pedro, Willian Estevao, and other forwards. The club has yet to announce the expected duration of Delap’s absence.
