Mudashiru-Obasa-Speaker-Lagos-State-House-of-Assembly-e1686224741863

The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, RT Hon Mudashiru Obasa, has revealed that he is considering his political future beyond his current role, hinting that a governorship run may be on the horizon.

Obasa, who recently weathered a political crisis that temporarily cost him his speakership, made this known during an interview with Television Continental on Thursday.

The lawmaker recalled that in a previous interview with the station about seven years ago, he had mentioned the possibility of becoming either a senator or a governor after serving as councillor and speaker. He, however, clarified that the comment was not a firm declaration of intent.

“Let me just explain. Now that we are talking about politics, you have to be a member of a political party and if you are a member, you must believe in the leadership of that party,” Obasa said.

He stressed that while every politician harbours ambitions, political advancement is largely determined by party structures and leadership.

“So you get to a stage where you cannot determine what is next for you. On your own, you may aspire to become something, but if you respect the party and the way it is managed, you know that the leaders will sit together and decide who will be next. It’s all about consultation and engagement with the party leaders,” he explained.

When asked if he plans to seek another four-year term in the Lagos Assembly, Obasa replied, “Not really,” leaving the door open for a possible governorship ambition.
