Despite ongoing relationship controversies surrounding legendary Nigerian musician Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, his management insists that his legacy remains untarnished.
In a chat with Saturday Beats, Chioma Ebubedike-Igbokwe, Head of Legal and Communication at A Guy Entertainment, said the singer’s cultural impact far outweighs the noise on social media.
“Controversy sells faster than music in today’s digital climate,” she said. “But 2Baba’s legacy is untouchable. He is regarded as one of the greatest African musicians of all time. Billboard naming ‘African Queen’ the greatest afrobeats song ever only reinforces that.”
Ebubedike-Igbokwe emphasized that today’s global afrobeats success is built on the foundation laid by pioneers like 2Baba.
“We’re not here to compete with younger artists. Our focus is on showcasing his unmatched storytelling, depth, and stage presence. There’s room for both new talents and legends. His music is timeless—just like Fela or Christy Essien-Igbokwe—and the younger generation should look to him for inspiration.”
Responding to his silence amidst online speculation, she noted it is a deliberate and strategic choice.
“Silence, for us, is a form of respect—for truth, for family, and for fans. Social media thrives on drama; history thrives on substance. 2Baba is the emotional voice of a generation. When he does speak, it will be on his own terms—with grace and honesty.”
She also addressed the reception of his recent soundtrack Save Me for the Netflix series To Kill a Monkey, rejecting claims of poor reception.
“The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. Fans describe it as one of his most personal and soul-stirring tracks in years.”
The management further revealed that a new album, a docu-series, and a global tour are underway, promising fans an authentic and refreshing experience from the music icon.
