The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old man, Isiaka Hassan, for the murder of a five-year-old boy.

In a statement on Monday, the command’s spokesman, SP Suleiman Nguroje, said, “The Adamawa State Police Command received a report from Hadiza Bashiru of Tingno, Lamurde LGA, that her five-year-old son, Abba Bashiru, was missing and was last seen with one Isiaka Hassan.

“On the strength of that, the command’s operatives led by the Divisional Police Officer, Tingno, swiftly led an operation and arrested the said Isiaka Hassan, who during interrogation confessed to having conspired with one yet-to-be-arrested person to kill the boy and bury him in a shallow grave.”

According to the statement, the boy’s body was exhumed and taken to the hospital for autopsy. The Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to take over the case and track down the fleeing suspect.

In a separate operation, police also arrested one Musa Suleh of Uba Hong Local Government Area for allegedly being in possession of stolen vehicles.

“The suspect was apprehended at the Jambutu Motor Park, Yola North LGA. Upon interrogation, he confessed to stealing a Toyota Starlet, with registration number YLA-420, belonging to one Babawo Abubakar of Ngurore, Yola South LGA. The vehicle has since been recovered.

“Another Toyota Starlet, green in colour, with number plate JAL-861 CL was equally found in his possession with no single document or proof of ownership to justify ownership of the vehicle,” the statement added.

Morris ordered the State CID to deepen investigations to trace the source of the vehicles. He urged the public to provide timely and credible information about suspicious activities.

“The command remains unwavering in its commitment to safeguarding lives and property,” he said, adding that both suspects would be charged in court upon completion of investigations.
