The 11th edition of the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) is shaping up to be one of the most competitive yet, with three of Nigeria’s biggest stars – Davido, Ayra Starr, and Burna Boy who are set to battle it out for the coveted Artiste of the Year crown.

The full nomination list, released last month, highlighted Nigeria’s growing dominance in the African music scene. Both Davido and Burna Boy secured five nominations each, reaffirming their status as global heavyweights in Afrobeats and beyond. Rising street-hop sensation Shallipopi also emerged as one of the frontrunners, earning four nominations, including Artiste of the Year and Song of the Year.

Rema, who has continued to enjoy worldwide acclaim since the release of his global hit Calm Down, bagged three nominations, including a place in the Artiste of the Year category. Meanwhile, Ayra Starr, who earned two nominations, will be going head-to-head with the industry’s finest for the same prize, cementing her place as one of Africa’s fastest-rising female superstars.

The category will also see fierce competition from El Grande Toto, one of North Africa’s most successful contemporary artists, showcasing AFRIMA’s continental reach and celebration of diverse African sounds.

Public voting for AFRIMA 2025 will officially open on September 10, allowing fans worldwide to support their favorite stars across categories. The voting process has historically played a key role in shaping winners, giving the African music audience direct influence on the outcomes.

This year’s awards ceremony is scheduled to take place in Nigeria from November 25 to 30, 2025, and promises to be a spectacular celebration of African music, culture, and creativity. With performances from nominated acts and special tributes planned, the six-day event is expected to attract global attention and showcase the power of Afrobeats and other African genres on the world stage.

As anticipation builds, all eyes will be on whether Davido, Burna Boy, Ayra Starr, or another contender will walk away with the night’s biggest prize — Artiste of the Year.
