At the 2025 Justice Sector Leadership Retreat in Maiduguri, the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), urged Nigeria’s judiciary to embrace technology as a critical tool for delivering timely, transparent, and accessible justice.
Highlighting the growing expectations of Nigerians for an efficient legal system, Fagbemi stressed that digital transformation—through innovations like AI in legal research, digital case management, and online dispute resolution—must be central to judicial reform efforts.
He emphasized that prosecutors, regulators, and policymakers have a responsibility to lead this transformation by integrating modern tools into daily legal operations.
Fagbemi also called for sustained investment in digital literacy, cybersecurity, and data management, underpinned by strategic public-private partnerships and legislative reforms to support systemic change.
Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum, also present at the retreat, echoed these sentiments.
He emphasized the need for coordinated reforms across all justice institutions, including law enforcement, courts, correctional services, and legal aid agencies, to eliminate delays and inefficiencies that undermine public trust.
Both leaders agreed: for justice to truly serve the people, it must evolve with the times.
