Suspected armed herders on Saturday invaded Tse Akor Gbatse, a village in Mbamar Clan, Nyiev Council Ward of Guma Local Government Area, Benue State, killing one man and leaving his wife and another woman injured.

Several other residents were also reported missing following the attack on farmers in the community.

A resident, who identified himself as Jonah, said the victims were attacked while working on their farm around 11:45 a.m.

He said, “Suspected armed herders on Saturday at about 11:45 am attacked and killed a man identified as Mr Tachia Akor, his wife, and one Mrs. Mbagbedi Tsetim sustained serious injury.

“The two women were rushed to the Adi Hospital in Daudu town. Many other farmers are still missing as of today (Sunday).”

Jonah further alleged that some of the attackers were sighted hibernating in deserted villages within the LGA.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Benue State Police Command, DSP Edeme Udet, said operatives had been deployed to restore calm.

“Yes, we were informed. Immediately we heard of the report, our men were deployed to the area, and they are already investigating the matter. Normalcy has returned to the area,” the PPRO stated.
