The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) branch, has commenced an indefinite strike to protest the non-payment of lecturers’ salaries.

In a letter dated Thursday and addressed to the institution’s Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olubunmi Shittu, the union announced the decision to down tools. The letter was jointly signed by the branch Chairman, Dr. O. A. Fagbuagun, and the Financial Secretary, Mr. Ngwu Benitho.

The union leaders stated that the action would continue until all outstanding salaries are fully paid.

They explained that the move is in line with a directive from ASUU’s National Executive Council (NEC), which stipulates that any branch where salaries are not settled by the third day of a new month must suspend academic activities until payment is made.

“Following this NEC resolution, ASUU-FUOYE has embarked on a total, comprehensive, and indefinite strike, which will only be called off once the owed salaries are paid,” the statement read.
