The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State has elected Adamu Bawa as its new state chairman during the party’s congress held on Saturday in Ilorin.
Bawa, who contested for the Kwara North Senatorial District seat in the 2023 general election, emerged unopposed.
Other officials elected at the congress include AbdulRahman Kayode as State Secretary and Olusegun Adewara as Publicity Secretary, among others.
Speaking at the event, former Senate President Dr. Bukola Saraki praised party members for demonstrating unity, fairness, and internal democracy.
“The PDP has once again shown that it is a party that offers a level playing field and prioritises the will of the people,” Saraki said.
He added that the peaceful conduct of the congress reflected the maturity of the party in Kwara and nationwide.
“At PDP, INEC officials can see our peaceful and mature conduct. In other party congresses, you often need heavy security to avoid chaos. This level of order reflects the character of our great party.”
The immediate past state chairman, Babatunde Mohammed, expressed confidence in the PDP’s readiness to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
“We are one big family, firmly on the ground and fully prepared for the task ahead. With the support of the people, we will give the APC a serious contest,” he said.
In his acceptance speech, Adamu Bawa pledged to work closely with other executives and stakeholders to strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
“We are committed to building the party at both state and national levels. Together, we will work to reclaim power in Kwara in 2027,” he stated.
