Bayer Leverkusen are reportedly on the verge of appointing former Denmark national team coach Kasper Hjulmand as their new manager, following the dismissal of Erik ten Hag.
Ten Hag, who joined the Bundesliga side during the summer after leaving Manchester United, was sacked just two games into the 2025/26 campaign. His short stint came after he replaced Xabi Alonso, who departed for Real Madrid. Club chiefs moved swiftly to end his tenure after being unconvinced by early performances.
Initially, former Celtic and Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou was linked with the position, but he is no longer being considered. Instead, Leverkusen have turned their attention to Hjulmand, who is currently out of work.
Hjulmand coached Denmark between 2020 and 2024, guiding them to several major tournaments. While he previously had a brief and unsuccessful spell with Mainz in the Bundesliga during the 2014/15 season, Leverkusen believe his experience and leadership can restore stability at the BayArena.
According to Sky Deutschland, talks are ongoing, with Leverkusen hoping to have Hjulmand in charge ahead of their upcoming league clash against Eintracht Frankfurt on Friday.
