Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State on Monday inaugurated 17 Commissioners into the State Executive Council, charging them to uphold transparency, accountability, and dedication in the discharge of their duties.

Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony held at the Government House in Makurdi, the governor urged the appointees to focus on service delivery, strengthen community engagement at the grassroots level, and operate with openness in all official dealings.

Alia stressed that adherence to the rule of law and teamwork would be key to advancing his administration’s developmental agenda. He further noted that the Executive Council would serve as a crucial driver of policies designed to improve the welfare of the people of Benue.

“Our administration is people-oriented. We want Benue to grow, and that requires transparency, accountability, and loyalty to the government,” he declared. “You must work visibly at the grassroots, leave a lasting mark, and give your best to the state.”

The governor also underscored the importance of security, describing peace and stability as vital foundations for sustainable progress in the state. He directed the new Commissioners to ensure citizens are well-informed about government programmes, policies, and expenditures in order to foster trust and inclusiveness.

Of the 17 Commissioners sworn in, eight were retained from the previous Executive Council, while nine are fresh appointees.

The retained Commissioners include:

Tiza Imojime (Works)

Yanmar Ortese (Health and Human Resources)

Frederick Lanshima Ikyaan (Education)

Ugwu Odoh (Water Resources)

Kwaghgba Amande (Digital Communications)

Aondowase Kunde (Disaster Management)

Michael Oglegba (Finance)

Alumo Orpin (Commerce, Trade and Investment)

While the newly appointed Commissioners are:

Peter Egbodo

James Dwem

Joseph Jir

Margaret Adamu

Theresa Ikwue

Benjamin Ashaver

The swearing-in marks a significant step in Governor Alia’s effort to build a functional and accountable cabinet to drive his vision for Benue State’s development.
