Manchester United’s hierarchy is standing by manager Ruben Amorim despite the heavy 3-0 defeat to rivals Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, ESPN reports.
Amorim, who succeeded Erik ten Hag in November, has managed only eight wins in 31 Premier League matches, with the latest loss marking United’s worst start to a season in 33 years. The Portuguese coach is under mounting pressure, but sources say the club’s board remains supportive at least for now.
The 40-year-old is expected to remain in charge when Chelsea visit Old Trafford on Saturday. United will also face Brentford and Sunderland before the October international break. While no deadline has been set for how long the board’s backing will last, there is an understanding that results must improve.
Club officials believe, however, that there have been signs of progress compared to last season. Ahead of the weekend’s fixtures, United topped the league in key metrics such as expected goals (xG), total shots, and touches in the opposition box.
During the derby, United even enjoyed more possession than City and registered a similar number of shots, leading some decision-makers to feel the team has been unlucky in several early-season games.
United currently sit 14th in the Premier League table with four points from their opening four matches.
