The Federal Government says this year’s 65th Independence Day anniversary will be marked with low-key activities.
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, disclosed this at the Pre-Independence World Press Conference held on Monday in Abuja.
*“The theme of the celebration is ‘All Hands on Deck.’ Activities will be low-key. We started with the Jummat Prayers on Friday and the Thanksgiving Service on Sunday.
“The National Value Charter, as championed by the National Orientation Agency, will also be unveiled.
“The National Students’ debate is also another activity that will be held to mark the 65th independence anniversary celebration,”* Idris said.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the National Value Charter is a framework designed to instill national pride and foster responsible citizenship by outlining both the government’s commitments and the responsibilities of citizens.
The charter is divided into two sections: the “Nigerian Promise,” which spells out government commitments to equality, democracy, freedom, inclusivity, meritocracy, peace, and entrepreneurship; and the “Citizen’s Code,” which calls on Nigerians to embrace discipline, accountability, tolerance, environmental awareness, resilience, and duty of care.
The NOA plans to drive the campaign through sensitisation initiatives, collaboration with community stakeholders, and digital engagement to build a more unified and value-driven society
