The Federal Government has expressed strong support for celebrity chef Hilda Baci as she attempts to set a new Guinness World Record for cooking the world’s largest pot of jollof rice.
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, praised Baci’s bold culinary feat, calling it “another demonstration of Nigeria’s global excellence.”
The commendation was delivered on his behalf by Dr. Olalekan Fadolapo, Director-General of the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON), during the event at Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos, on Friday.
Hilda Baci gained international recognition in 2023 after setting the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon, clocking 93 hours in the kitchen. This time, she’s taking it a notch higher with a six-metre-wide, custom-built pot, aiming to break new ground in culinary achievement.
“The Federal Government lauds Hilda Baci’s extraordinary effort in putting Nigeria once again on the global map,” Idris stated.
He highlighted Baci’s unwavering dedication, calling her a symbol of “the Nigerian spirit that the world has come to admire.” He added that her commitment exemplifies values such as perseverance, professionalism, and legitimate hard work.
The minister also emphasized the importance of supporting projects like Baci’s that showcase Nigerian talent and culture on a global stage.
“We recognise and celebrate Nigerians like Hilda Baci who serve as ambassadors of our nation’s capabilities, creativity, and cuisine,” he said.
Idris further commended her meticulous planning and adherence to hygiene standards, stating that her work reflects the quality and integrity Nigeria is proud of.
He called on the thousands of young Nigerians who gathered at the event to draw inspiration from Baci’s discipline and ambition, urging them to pursue ventures that contribute not just to their personal success, but to national development and global recognition.
“We encourage young Nigerians to turn their creativity into initiatives that bring pride to the country,” he said.
On behalf of President Bola Tinubu, the Minister extended best wishes to Baci, describing her mission as a potential “collective national victory.”
