Nigerian celebrity chef Hilda Baci has received a message of support from Guinness World Records (GWR) as she attempts to cook the world’s largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice.

The global record body reposted a video from the event on X (formerly Twitter), with the caption.

“What’s cookin’? Best of luck to @hildabacicooks who’s attempting a new record for the largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice today.”

Hilda, who became a global sensation in 2023 after setting the record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual, launched this new challenge at Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos.

The event has drawn a massive crowd of fans, food enthusiasts, and celebrities. A specially designed pot with a capacity of 22,619 litres is being used, with the goal of filling it to 80%.

To achieve this, Baci estimates she’ll need about 5,278 kg of basmati rice around 250 bags, rounded down from 264 as part of her preparation strategy.

The atmosphere at the venue has been festive, with music, dancing, and celebrity appearances. Actress Funke Akindele praised Hilda on stage before joining her to stir the tomato base of the dish.

Other notable figures present include the First Lady of Ogun State, Bamidele Abiodun, and celebrities like Kaffy, Tomike Adeoye, Enioluwa, Veekee James, Peller, Femi Atere, Samuel Banks, Alex Unusual, Folagbade Banks, and Spyro.

Baci’s 2023 cook-a-thon, where she cooked for over 93 hours, cemented her status as a national icon and inspired many young Nigerians, especially women, to pursue culinary careers.
