Celebrity chef Hilda Baci has officially begun her attempt to set a new Guinness World Record for cooking the world’s largest pot of jollof rice, targeting the use of 250 bags of rice.
Baci, who gained global fame in 2023 after breaking the record for the longest cooking marathon, launched the historic challenge at Eko Hotels, Lagos, before a lively audience of fans and supporters.
Before the cooking kicked off, Hilda shared a heartfelt moment with her mother as they prayed together, seeking divine strength, protection and endurance for the marathon cooking session. The emotional scene drew cheers from the crowd, with many crediting her mother as a major pillar of her success.
“Yes, I can officially confirm this pot is squeaky clean! I rolled up my sleeves and washed it myself. In just a few hours, this same pot will carry thousands of servings of Nigerian Jollof history in the making,” she wrote.
Originally scheduled to hold at Muri Okunola Park, the event was relocated to Eko Hotels following overwhelming interest, after more than 20,000 people registered to witness the record-breaking feat.
