Celebrity chef and Guinness World Record holder Hilda Baci is teaming up with GBfoods Nigeria (makers of Gino) in a bold attempt to cook the world’s largest pot of Jollof rice.

Scheduled for September 12, the event aims to set a new Guinness World Record, with Baci preparing the dish in a custom six-metre-wide pot. The cook-off will be open to the public and promises to be a celebration of food, culture, and Nigerian resilience.

“This is more than just about food; it’s about our identity, our heritage, and the stories we tell,” said Baci.

Oreoluwa Atinmo, Marketing Director of GBfoods Nigeria, said the initiative is a celebration of the “resilient Nigerian spirit that never settles.” She described the upcoming event as “a convergence of culture and history,” expected to draw food lovers, chefs, and cultural icons from across the country.

Baci, who gained global fame in 2023 for breaking the record for the longest cooking marathon, sees this new challenge as an opportunity to continue celebrating Nigeria’s rich culinary tradition.

“Together with Gino, I’m honoured to take on this historic feat. I invite everyone to witness history in the making through passion, culture, and of course, great food,” she added.

The attempt also feeds into the ongoing West African rivalry over who makes the best Jollof, with Nigeria, Ghana, and others each claiming superiority.

Beyond national pride, the event is expected to bolster Nigeria’s culinary and cultural reputation on the global stage.
