Rasmus Højlund has promised to give his all for Napoli after completing a late summer move from Manchester United, declaring that he has “a lot to prove” as he returns to Serie A.

The 22-year-old Danish striker joined the Italian champions on an initial €6 million loan deal, with an obligation to buy for €44 million if the club secures Champions League qualification. He arrives as a direct replacement for Romelu Lukaku, who is sidelined with a long-term thigh injury.

Højlund endured a frustrating second season at Old Trafford, managing just four league goals in 32 appearances, which eventually led to his departure. However, Napoli believe the former Atalanta star can rediscover the form that once made him one of Europe’s most promising forwards.

Speaking to club media, Højlund said his return to Serie A is a chance for redemption: “It’s different now, obviously. I come with more experience and I’m a better football player. I’ve played in the Premier League, Champions League, Europa League, and in multiple countries. I come with a lot to prove, I want to show myself in the best team in Italy, and Napoli is going to be very, very good.”

He added that fans can expect maximum effort: “I always work hard. I like to say I want to die on the pitch, to give everything for the team, score goals, create, and fight for everything.”

Højlund’s transfer is more than a squad adjustment for Napoli. It represents a second chance for a player once seen as Manchester United’s long-term No.9, but who struggled under pressure and expectation in England. For Antonio Conte’s side, his arrival ensures they remain competitive despite Lukaku’s absence.

With Kevin De Bruyne already shining in midfield, Højlund provides another marquee option in attack as Napoli seek to defend their Scudetto and make a deep Champions League run.

The Danish forward will be thrown straight into action, with Napoli set to face Fiorentina in Serie A before a heavyweight Champions League clash against Manchester City on September 18.
