The lawmaker representing Ayedaade/Irewole/Isokan Federal Constituency, Lanre Oladebo, has revealed that his representation has facilitated no fewer than 14 projects in Ayedaade Local Government Area in just two years, adding that more are in the pipeline.
Oladebo said this on Sunday when he met with youths from all political wards in the local government in Gbongan.
The meeting was aimed at strengthening the People’s Democratic Party in the constituency and to read his stewardship account to the constituents.
Youths across all wards took turns to appreciate the lawmaker for the projects executed so far.
They called Oladebo’s attention to pressing issues in the constituency while also seeking his support for empowerment of youths in the area, lamenting the seemingly neglect from PDP leaders across board.
“We want real empowerment. Many of us are graduates and we have artisans in our midst. Kindly look inwards and give us really empowerment. We are ready to support you.” One of the youths, Akinola Olujide said.
Responding to the yearnings, the lawmaker said he has facilitated 14 jobs to the local government, while also promising more in no distant time.
He highlighted some of his interventions, including the renovation of classrooms at CAC Oke Ola in Gbongan, provision of 500kg transformers in Ode Omo, installation of solar streetlights in Gbongan and Ode Omo, donation of computers, ongoing hospital in Orile-Owu, as well as food palliatives and cash grants to constituents at regular intervals.
Oladebo explained that the engagement was aimed at giving youths a platform to air their grievances while also updating them on ongoing projects and policies in their constituency. He stressed that governance is a gradual process and assured that such interactive sessions would become regular across all local governments.
“We are here to engage the youth directly, to listen to their complaints and give first-hand updates on what we are doing. Governance is in stages; we cannot do everything at once, but I can assure you that this will be a regular exercise across all local governments,” he said.
Also speaking, Ayedaade PDP Chairman, Hon. Samni Adeyefa, described the parley as resourceful, noting that it has changed the youths’ perception of the lawmaker’s performance.
He disclosed that the constituency remains focused on securing Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election.
“Here in Ayedaade, we are united. Our priority is Governor Adeleke’s second term. Other ambitions can follow later. By God’s grace, PDP is winning again,” he said.
In the meantime, a youth was given a federal job at the event.
The elated lady, while speaking with InsightMedia, revealed that she has no inkling of what was coming for before deciding to participate at the parley.
The meeting ended with the formation of a committee to strengthen communication between party leaders and youths, with Hon. Oladepo promising sustained grassroots engagement and honest feedback on what is possible within state and federal government capacities.
