Tension gripped residents of the Agunbiade area in Somolu, Lagos State, after a mob attacked a physically challenged man accused of using diabolical means to steal another man’s manhood.
The incident happened on Thursday, less than a week after a member of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Samsideen Oladiti, also known as Shamelon, allegedly killed a tricyclist during an assault in Lagos Island.
According to an eyewitness, Gbenga, trouble started when a man raised an alarm that his manhood had vanished after picking up a cash note allegedly dropped by the disabled suspect.
The shout drew a crowd that pounced on the man, beating him and demanding that he return the victim’s manhood.
Photographs from the scene showed the physically challenged suspect — appearing crippled — with bloodstains on his head from injuries sustained during the assault.
Eyewitnesses alleged that the man confessed to the act, claiming the money was laced with charms and promising to restore the victim’s manhood if allowed to go elsewhere.
Gbenga said, “An Aboki (a term commonly used to describe northerners) was caught today for attempting to steal a manhood through diabolical means.
“One man said he picked up a cash note allegedly dropped by him, and immediately his manhood disappeared.
“He was attacked by some boys, and he admitted that he would restore his manhood if they allowed him to go somewhere. He also claimed the money had been laced with charms.”
Police operatives from Onipanu Division were later called to the scene to restore calm.
“After they left, I learnt that the man said his manhood had been restored and that the police helped them settle the matter,” Gbenga added.
When contacted, Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, said she would provide an update but had not done so at the time of filing this report.
