Veteran broadcaster and former Your View host, Morayo Afolabi-Brown, has admitted that her past criticism of Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi stemmed from a lack of understanding of his record in office.
In a recent interview with Chude Jideonwo, Afolabi-Brown confessed that her earlier comments about the former Anambra State governor were made without full knowledge of his achievements.
“It was because I didn’t know him. After I made those comments, people reached out and said, ‘Morayo, do you realise what he did while in office?’ I had no idea,” she said.
Beyond politics, Afolabi-Brown opened up about her personal struggles, revealing that she battled severe depression and once felt suicidal.
“I was depressed. It got so bad I just walked along the expressway hoping a car would hit me,” she said candidly.
Reflecting on her exit from Your View after 12 years, she said the decision was long in the making.
“When the show turned 10, I knew it was time to move on. I had been feeling it for a while, but I didn’t know what was next until last year, when it finally clicked.”
She also revealed she was once dismissed from TVC, until her family background reached President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“People called Asiwaju, telling him, ‘Do you know whose child was sacked?’ When he found out I was Alao Aka-Bashorun’s daughter, everything changed,” she recalled.
Afolabi-Brown also revisited a major controversy in her career a viral moment in which she was accused of calling her husband a pedophile during a live broadcast.
According to her, the First Lady’s intervention helped resolve the issue, leading to a public apology.
Her 12-year journey on Your View came to an official end following her decision to pursue new opportunities.
