The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has rejected the expulsion of Abdulmumin Jibrin, representative of Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency in Kano State, calling it invalid.

In a statement on Saturday, NNPP National Secretary Oginni Sunday condemned the announcement, describing it as unauthorized and baseless.

The expulsion was reportedly announced by Hashim Dungurawa, a former state chairman previously expelled from the party.

Sunday dismissed Dungurawa’s move as a “joke taken too far,” questioning the authority of a non-member to expel a sitting federal lawmaker.

He referenced court rulings from April 2025 confirming that Dungurawa, alongside Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso and others, had been expelled from NNPP, making their claims invalid.

The statement suggested that Jibrin’s refusal to align with Kwankwaso’s faction angered the Kwankwasiyya movement, which allegedly sought to undermine him in retaliation.

Sunday also warned that Kano Governor Abba Yusuf’s loyalty to Kwankwaso might jeopardize the party’s hold on Kano in the 2027 governorship election, urging Yusuf to seek reconciliation with the party leadership.

Jibrin, a prominent Kano politician and former Director-General of the Tinubu Support Group, was expelled by the Kano NNPP chapter over alleged anti-party activities and financial defaults, according to PUNCH Online.

Reacting to the expulsion, Jibrin described it as a “rude shock,” insisting that his interviews in English and Hausa aligned with party values.

He also denied any financial default, calling on the party to issue an invoice which he promised to settle promptly. Jibrin criticized the party’s disregard for its members’ contributions, claiming the NNPP fails to respect political value within its ranks.
