Popular Nollywood actress, Wumi Toriola, has been hospitalised following a wave of online criticism.
The actress came under fire from fans and social media users after she publicly confronted veteran actor and filmmaker, Afeez Owo, over his remarks about her movie roles. Owo, who is married to fellow actress Mide Martins, had during an interview shared his views on Toriola’s acting style, comments she found displeasing.
Her reaction sparked heated debate online, with many netizens siding with Owo and criticising Toriola’s approach.
On Thursday, the actress revealed via Instagram page that she had been admitted to hospital as a result of the backlash. Sharing a photo of herself on a hospital bed, she wrote: “Internet dragging and ICU are siblings.”
In a follow-up message, Toriola expressed regret over the incident, assuring fans that she had taken their criticisms to heart. She also appealed for their prayers.
“I have heard you all, will do better next time. Wish me quick recovery,” she wrote.
