Nollywood actress Wumi Toriola has strongly rebuked fellow actor and filmmaker, Afeez Owo, for publicly comparing her to his wife and colleague, Mide Martins.

The controversy began after Afeez Owo granted an interview on the African A-List Podcast, where he was asked about the personalities of some of his colleagues off-screen. While speaking, he drew a comparison between his wife, Mide Martins, and Wumi Toriola, suggesting that Wumi’s on-screen fiery roles mirror her real-life personality.

According to him, Mide is calm and collected in real life, unlike her movie characters, while Wumi is naturally aggressive and quick to react when provoked.

“Mide’s character in movies is totally different from who she is in real life, but Wumi’s movie roles are very close to her true character. Violence is her comfort zone. Wumi will react when provoked and she doesn’t take nonsense from anyone. But if you offend Mide in real life, she will remain calm,” Afeez had said.

His remarks, however, did not sit well with Toriola, who took to Instagram on Tuesday to express her displeasure in a video that has since been deleted.

In the video, she described the interview as “rubbish” and berated Afeez for making such comments about her personality on a public platform.

“Must every rift be taken to podcasts? They gave you a microphone, and you started saying rubbish. After they entertained you with pepper soup, you started blabbing,” she said angrily.

Defending herself, Wumi insisted that she is not a “mad woman” as implied by his description, stressing that she only reacts when provoked.

“Am I a mad woman? If people don’t offend me, will I be angry? I have never insulted you before. I still respect you despite your unfortunate behaviour,” she added.

The exchange has since stirred conversations among fans and industry followers, with many weighing in on the boundaries of personal opinions in interviews and how they affect professional relationships in Nollywood.
