The Ogun State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticised Governor Dapo Abiodun for what it described as a reckless misuse of public funds following the governor’s recent appointment of 1,200 political aides.

In a statement issued by its chairman, Otunba Olufemi Soluade, the party said the decision presented as a move to “strengthen grassroots democracy” amounts to a colossal waste of taxpayers’ money at a time when most residents are grappling with rising living costs, high unemployment, deteriorating infrastructure, and poor access to healthcare and education.

“This policy is nothing but daylight robbery, a political smokescreen aimed at advancing the governor’s 2027 ambitions, not the welfare of Ogun citizens,” the statement read.

Describing the appointments as “political patronage disguised as empowerment,” the ADC accused the governor of exploiting poverty to reward loyalists instead of investing in meaningful development.

“This is not grassroots empowerment; it is political tokenism. While the people of Ogun tighten their belts, the government is lavishly spending public funds on cronies. It is both insensitive and irresponsible,” Soluade said.

The party further faulted the administration for lacking innovative strategies to tackle the state’s pressing socio-economic problems, stressing that what Ogun truly needs are policies that create jobs, build wealth and promote inclusive growth not “handouts disguised as governance.”

The ADC urged civil society groups, opposition parties, and concerned citizens to unite in resisting what it called “a brazen assault on our collective future.”

“Governance must not be reduced to a survival game for politicians. Ogun State deserves visionary leadership, not wasteful politics masquerading as inclusion,” Soluade added.

The party reaffirmed its resolve to hold the government accountable and to expose policies that prioritise political expediency over genuine development.
