A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Alhaji Jamiu Olawumi has expressed confidence that Senator Iyiola Omisore will clinch the party’s ticket and emerge victorious against Governor Ademola Adeleke in the 2026 governorship election.
Olawumi, who is a former Special Adviser on Education to former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, made this known while featuring on Insightful Moment with Jare Tiamiyu in Osogbo.
Speaking on the party’s internal wranglings, the APC stalwart said the present dynamics is not a crisis but “political apprehension created by the entry of Omisore into the governorship race”.
He stressed that politics remains a local affair, adding that Omisore’s grassroots strength, structure, and experience give him a clear edge over other aspirants.
“I have always pitched my tent with winners from Aregbesola’s campaign to Oyetola’s. With Omisore, victory is assured. Among all aspirants, I rate all aspirants in APC above 70%, but Omisore is the best of the rest and rated above 90%,” he declared.
While acknowledging other strong contenders in the race, Olawumi argued that “Omisore’s structure, popularity, and track record stand unmatched.”
Speaking on the much-talked about report of a committee led by former Health Minister, Prof. Isaac Adewole, Olawumi said the report, which according to him emphasized reward for party loyalty and repositioning, is to be implemented by next governor of the APC extraction.
“We have to commend former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola for setting up the committee led by Prof Isaac Adewole. I also sent a memorandum to the committee during its sitting. But the report is for the next governor from our party to implement and Senator Iyiola Omisore is promising members of the Party that he will implement it,” he said.
Commenting on the Adeleke’s administration, he faulted ongoing flyover projects for crippling businesses and argued that Osun’s priorities should be education, healthcare, and human capital development.
“Adeleke’s only achievement is making a puff-puff seller a civil servant. He has failed to recruit a teacher in his three years. No single medic has been recruited by him. Go to primary healthcare centres, you’ll see that instead of having two shifts, they now operate only during the day because they are short-staffed. Is that what he calls super achievements?
“The PDP’s preparations do not guarantee victory. With Omisore as our candidate, APC will reclaim Osun in 2026,” he concluded.
