The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State has challenged the All Progressives Congress (APC) to publicly disclose the bank accounts into which federal allocations for local governments were allegedly paid.
The call followed an earlier statement by the APC in which it faulted the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) for criticizing the payment of allocations into what the union described as “illegal accounts” operated by court-sacked APC council chairmen and councillors.
In its response on Sunday, the PDP, through its State Chairman, Hon. Sunday Bisi, described the APC’s admission that allocations had been paid as “an open confession of wrongdoing against the people of Osun State.”
“Rather than engaging in name-calling and reckless propaganda against NULGE, we challenge the APC to come clean by publicly disclosing the exact bank accounts into which the allocations were paid and the signatories to those accounts,” the statement read.
According to the PDP, statutory officers across the 30 local government areas—including treasurers and other account managers—were unaware of any such payments. It added that neither the State Accountant-General, the Auditor-General for Local Governments, nor the Ministry of Local Government had records of the funds.
The party warned that unless the APC provides details, “it will be concluded that the party and its leaders have staged the greatest heist in the history of Nigeria by diverting over six months of allocations belonging to Osun councils.”
The PDP reiterated its commitment to transparency under Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration, assuring residents that accountability would remain a guiding principle in the management of public funds.
