The Oyo State Government has announced the deployment of over 2,000 security operatives to guarantee a hitch-free coronation of Oba Rashidi Ladoja, who will be officially crowned as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland on Friday, September 26, 2025, at the historic Mapo Hall, Ibadan.

The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Ademola Ojo, disclosed this on Saturday during a press briefing at the Olubadan Palace. He explained that the security arrangement is a collaborative effort involving the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Department of State Services (DSS), Amotekun Corps, and the Oyo State Road Transport Management Authority (OYRTMA).

According to Ojo, the combined deployment is aimed at ensuring the safety of dignitaries, residents and visitors throughout the week-long activities leading up to the coronation.

“Their commitment to maintaining law and order is paramount. We assure residents and guests of a secure and seamless celebration,” he said.

Describing the installation of the former governor and elder statesman as a historic and cultural milestone, Ojo emphasised that the coronation symbolises Ibadan’s rich heritage and the city’s resilient spirit.

“This coronation is not merely a traditional rite; it is a monumental celebration of Ibadan’s enduring heritage and the kind of visionary leadership that will guide our people into a promising future,” he added.

In partnership with the Olubadan-in-Council and other stakeholders, the state government has lined up a week-long programme of activities to honour the new monarch. The events will begin on Monday, September 22, featuring inter-religious prayers, a cultural fiesta, a coronation lecture, and a thanksgiving service.

Chairman of the Planning and Organising Committee, Chief Bayo Oyero, noted that the programme reflects Ibadan’s inclusive and diverse cultural heritage, and will culminate in the grand coronation ceremony on Friday.

“This is not just a traditional rite but a reaffirmation of our unique and timeless chieftaincy system. The ascension of Oba Ladoja is the fulfilment of a journey of many years, guided by the wisdom of our ancestors,” Oyero said.

He praised the orderly and democratic succession process of Ibadan, describing it as a model of stability and peace that has stood the test of generations.
