The Oyo State Government has announced a one-week programme of activities ahead of the coronation of the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, slated for Friday, September 26.
The Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, disclosed this in a statement on Monday after the inaugural meeting of the coronation planning committee chaired by Chief Bayo Oyero in Ibadan.
According to the schedule, the festivities will open on Monday, September 22, with an interdenominational service at the Olubadan Palace, Oke-Aremo, organised by the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII).
On Tuesday, the celebrations will feature a Cultural Day hosted by the CCII in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. This will be followed on Wednesday by a coronation lecture to be delivered by renowned historian, Prof. Toyin Falola.
On Thursday, a Mega Praise worship concert is billed to hold at the Civic Centre, Idi Ape, while the week-long events will climax on Friday, September 26, with the formal coronation of Oba Ladoja at the historic Mapo Hall.
The planning meeting where the programme was adopted had in attendance top government officials, including the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Demola Ojo; the Asipa Olubadan-designate, Oba Hamidu Ajibade; Chief Nureni Adisa; and Chief Adeola Oloko, media aide to the Olubadan.
Also present were the commissioners for Culture and Tourism, Women Affairs, and Information, as well as representatives of the 11 local government councils in Ibadanland, led by the Chairmen of Egbeda and Ibadan South East councils. Others included a member of the Oyo State House of Assembly representing Ibadan South East, the Governor’s Director-General of Protocol, and permanent secretaries from the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters.
