Governors elected under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have extended warm greetings to Muslims celebrating Eid-el-Maulud while expressing concern over what they describe as Nigeria’s drift toward authoritarian rule.

In a goodwill message released Friday by the PDP Governors’ Forum, chaired by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, the governors urged Nigerians especially Muslims to reflect on the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), highlighting values such as peace, tolerance, and service to humanity.

The forum’s Director-General, Dr. Emmanuel Agbo, who signed the statement, said “Today, we honour the birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), whose life continues to inspire compassion, justice, and unity. His message remains deeply relevant as Nigeria seeks stability.”

The governors also raised alarm over growing disconnection between citizens and essential government services, accusing the current administration of leading the country closer to dictatorship.

“Our country stands at a crossroads. As Nigerians become increasingly cut off from essential services, we are seeing signs of creeping authoritarianism, misuse of power, and worsening poverty amid abundant resources,” the statement read.

They called for urgent action to tackle insecurity, reform the judiciary, and overhaul failed economic policies that have led to widespread hunger, unemployment, and hardship.

In their message to Muslims, the governors stressed the importance of compassion, humility, truth, and accountability in both personal and public life.

“Let this celebration serve as a reminder of the values we must uphold public service with integrity, kindness without conditions, and the pursuit of justice. May your Eid be filled with joy, prayer, and unity with loved ones.”
