The Osun State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the murder of a 26-year-old commercial motorcyclist in Iwo and the theft of his motorcycle.
Police spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, in a statement on Tuesday, said the suspects Habeeb Adedayo, 27, and Akeem Fawas, 19 were apprehended in Ibafo, Ogun State, while attempting to sell the victim’s motorcycle.
According to the police, the deceased, Segun Olatunji, had left home on August 16 for his regular motorcycle business but never returned. Investigations revealed that the suspects posed as farmers and offered him ₦5,000 to convey them to a farm in Iwo. Along the route, they allegedly attacked him, stabbing him in the neck before slitting his throat and making away with his motorcycle.
“On 16th August, 2025, the complainant reported at Iwo Division that, at about 0800hrs, his son Segun Olatunji ‘m’ 26years old a commercial motorcyclist, left home for his daily commercial motorcycle operations/activities within Iwo town and did not return home.
“Immediately the report was made, Police Detectives of the Command swiftly put necessary investigation mechanisms in place and fortunately, the duo of Habeeb Adedayo ‘m’ and Akeem Fawas ‘m’ were apprehended at Ibafo, Ogun State, while attempting to Sell the deceased’s motorcycle.
The command said Adedayo also confessed to participating in three other robbery operations within Iwo alongside other accomplices. A motorcycle and a knife were recovered as exhibits, while the suspects will be charged to court after investigations.
In a separate incident, police operatives intercepted a golden Toyota Camry at Unity Junction, Ikire, on August 29 during a stop-and-search operation. The driver fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle, which was later discovered to have been stolen from Owode, Ede, the previous night.
Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, urged commercial motorcyclists in the state to be vigilant and cautious about passengers they convey, noting that the command will continue to intensify efforts to rid Osun of criminal elements.
