Lagos State authorities have arrested six men for vandalising a government barricade at Obalende Roundabout, a major traffic hub in the state.

The suspects were identified as Matthew Yohana, 19; Jinadu Aliyu, 33; Yohanna Adamu, 29; Ayuba James, 25; Umoru John, 19; and Yakubu Ali, 25.

Confirming the arrests in a statement posted on X, the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, said:

“All arrested individuals will be prosecuted in line with the relevant extant law of the state. We will not allow criminality or lawlessness to undermine public safety or the environment in Lagos State.”

The arrests are part of ongoing enforcement efforts to curb vandalism and safeguard public infrastructure across Lagos. In recent months, state authorities have intensified crackdowns on illegal street protests, destruction of public property, and damage to road signs, particularly in high-traffic areas like Ojota, Ikeja, and now Obalende.

The government has urged residents to cooperate with law enforcement by reporting incidents of vandalism or any acts that could endanger public safety.

Reiterating the administration’s stance, Wahab added:

“We are determined to uphold the rule of law and ensure that Lagos remains safe and conducive for all residents and visitors.”
