A TikTok user, identified as @dorothytuash, has shared her terrifying experience of being conscious while in a medically induced coma following a miscarriage and severe infection.

In a recent video posted on August 31, Dorothy opened up about the ordeal she faced after losing a 23-week-old pregnancy and developing septic shock a life-threatening complication of infection that landed her in a coma for four days.

Earlier on August 24, she revealed that doctors had given her only a 50 percent chance of survival, calling her recovery nothing short of a miracle.

Dorothy described the distressing sensations she endured while unconscious, revealing that although her body was unresponsive, she was fully aware of her surroundings.

“When I tell you that being in a coma is one of the worst things you can ever experience, believe me. I don’t recommend it,” she said.

She explained that she could hear conversations around her, feel pain, and yet was completely unable to move or respond.

“I could hear people talking about me. It’s enough to traumatize anyone. Everyone’s experience is different, but in my case, I was conscious. I knew what was happening.”

She recalled the pain of having multiple IVs in her arms and being turned over by medical staff.

“One of the IVs blew up my arm was swollen, and they had to squeeze it out. I was screaming inside every time.”

Dorothy revealed that the coma was medically induced to allow doctors to administer urgent treatment for her septic shock.

“I had septic shock, and they put me in a coma so they could treat me. But it was terrifying. I was panicking inside, hearing everything and feeling pain, but I couldn’t let anyone know.”

She added that she would sometimes regain consciousness briefly before blacking out again due to extreme anxiety and panic.

“Apparently, I was crying a lot while in the coma. Every time they opened my eyes, I could see but I couldn’t say a word. I knew what was going on.”

Dorothy’s story sheds light on the lesser-known but critical condition of septic shock, which occurs when a severe infection causes dangerously low blood pressure and organ failure. Without immediate treatment, it can be fatal.

According to Healthdirect, an Australian government health agency.

“Sepsis is a medical emergency. Symptoms may include fast breathing, fever, confusion, severe pain, discoloured skin, and drowsiness. Sepsis can quickly lead to septic shock, organ failure, or death if not treated urgently.”

Medical experts urge individuals  especially those recovering from childbirth, surgery, or major infections to seek immediate medical care if they experience symptoms consistent with sepsis.

Dorothy’s testimony offers a rare and unsettling insight into the conscious experience of a coma, while also serving as an urgent reminder of the importance of early medical intervention and awareness about septic shock.
