President Bola Tinubu will deliver an address at the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly on Wednesday, September 24, at the UN headquarters in New York.

According to a revised list obtained by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Tinubu is scheduled to speak during the afternoon session at approximately 8:30 p.m. local time (2:30 p.m. Nigerian time), as the 17th speaker on the second day of the General Debate.

He will join over 190 global leaders including heads of state, heads of government, and top-level delegates at this year’s Assembly. As is tradition, Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will open the debate, followed by U.S. President Donald Trump.

Speaker slots may shift based on each country’s level of representation, and a change is possible if Tinubu is unable to attend in person.

Last year, Vice President Kashim Shettima represented Nigeria, maintaining the country’s prominent position on the speakers list credited to Nigeria’s sustained diplomatic weight at the UN.

The 2025 theme for UNGA is “Better Together: 80 Years and More for Peace, Development, and Human Rights.”

The General Debate runs from September 23 to 29, while high-level events span from September 22 to 30, including key summits on climate change, AI governance, gender equality, and the commemoration of the UN’s 80th anniversary.

The session opened on Tuesday, September 9, with Germany’s Annalena Baerbock becoming the fifth woman in history to serve as President of the General Assembly.
